So this is a scheduled sea day. The big news for today is that we had a “behind the scenes tour” of the ship. Wow, this is quite an operation. Also, we found out that 100% of the funds raised from these tours goes to support activities for the crew members. We toured and I have pictures of behind the stage dressing rooms and storage of the sets. We heard about how the shows are put together and produced. We saw one of the numerous galleys, the huge storage areas for fruits, meat (all that comes from Miami), vegetables, one of the alcohol storages, and the computer with every restaurants’ recipes. Of course they had some tapas for the tour group. Next we went to the engine room. What a high tech operation for the electrical generation, water generation, engine operation, and every engineering operation on the ship. Really interesting! Last part of the tour was to the Bridge. This was also very interesting and we had a good explanation of everything from both the First and Second Officers. They have at least four sets of eyes constantly scanning the horizon for both other vessels and issues. They use autopilot only when in open waters. Not only do they have everything on computer, they also have plenty of pull-down maps and charts.
Enough about the tour, but we enjoyed it. Hope the pictures come out. Due to security, we were not able to take pictures on the Bridge or in the engine room.
