We arrived in Puerto Montt, Chile this morning at about 7:30. The temperature today is to be about 67 F with a chance of showers, but other than a few sprinkles when we first boarded the bus, there was no further rain. Our tender was not until 9:30 so we had a leisurely breakfast. Our first stop was in a temperate rain forest that has been protected by the government, even though we had to go through some private property. Walked several kilometers to see lots of trees, up to 1600 years old by their dating methods. We did hear birds but did not see any is the thick brush. The guide said they have several mammals in this area, including the puma. (Sorry I did not get any pictures of a puma). Next we went to a German museum to learn about the Germans that settled in this area, due to the political and economic circumstances in both Chile and Germany in the early 1900’s. I do have a few pictures to share of this location, including some alpacas. Last, we went into town and walked around to see their Mercado and take pictures of the Calbuca Volcano. We were told that this volcano is still active and last erupted in April 2015. I also have some pictures of another cone shaped volcano called Osorno. The large lake at the town of Puerto Vargas is called Lake Llanquihue and can be seen in some of the pictures.
