February 3, 2026- Day #30

We spent over night in Buenos Aires, Argentina and this is day #2 of 2 in this port. Joan and I did not have a shore excursion scheduled for this day but got our names on a wait list for the Gaucho Feasta excursion. Three of us went to the Vista Lounge this morning to see if we might be able to get added to the tour. Staff were able to open up three addition seats, so we got onto the bus for a 1 1/2 hour ride to a  working Gaucho ranch. On the way there, I did not get a good picture, but we passed the first official NBA retail store in Argentina. In addition to the retail, there is a cafe, mini- museum, and three point shooting court in the building. I would have liked to get into this place, as it looked really cool from the outside. Anyway, we had a great day at this ranch called “ La Mimosa ”. We were greeted by a gaucho on a horse (see picture) then had welcome wine and empanadas. Next we witnessed a game called corrida de sortija, which is like a jousting contest of gauchos riding on a horse running at full speed, to get a small ring. This ring is then given to a woman in the audience. Next there were horse rides, and then a wonderful lunch of salads, three types of BBQ’d  meats, more wines, beer, and bread. Dessert was ice cream and finally a traditional drink called mate. Oh, and several times during the afternoon we were entertained by a man and woman doing traditional dances, some with bombo leguero drums, another with scarves as part of a courting dance called the Zamba, and a throwing weapon called a boleadoras or bolas. This was a much better day than our original plan to just do some walking in the city. I hope the pictures do it justice. On the ride to the ranch the tour guide talked almost the whole way with lots of information to share, but on the ride back to the ship, with full bellies, it was quiet as most everyone was ready for a siesta.
