March 16, 2026- Day # 71

This has been an interesting day. Still at sea on day # 3 out of 5 on the way to French Polynesia. After breakfast, Joan and I did several games to earn the Big “O” points that we will use to get more Oceania merch at the end of this cruise segment. Then we attended a very informative talk about Easter Island (Rapa Nui) from a man that that spent 20 years on the island. He went there to do some undergraduate research and became enamored and did not leave until COVID killed the tourism industry. He talked about the people, the culture, and how the stone statues came to be made, moved from the quarry, and destroyed.  Did you know that the Island was named by the European explorers who discovered it on Easter Day 1722?

After this lecture, I attended a bourbon tasting with, in order of my ranking, Russell Reserve, Woodford Double Oaked, Bulleit, and last, Gentlemen Jack. It was interesting to hear the comments from the other attendees.

This evening we sat with two widowed ladies who are traveling alone. One is 91 years old, and a spitfire. The Italian meal was excellent, as always in this restaurant, Toscana.
